How to set up member verification on a Discord server
Create the Verified and Unverified roles, post a panel that members click, and turn verification on. Newcomers get Unverified when they join and Verified once they pass.
Before you start
You need the Manage Server permission. Kirzen needs Manage Roles, and the Kirzen role has to sit above the Unverified role in the role list, or it cannot hand the role out. Bots do not go through verification: the bot autorole takes care of them.
The steps
- 1. Choose how strict the gate is Strict: members who have not verified see only the verification channel. It is the strongest and the most work on a server that is already running. Standard: they can look around but not speak, which is what most servers want. Light: it only marks people and blocks nobody.
-
2. Create the roles
Without confirm it only shows what would change. The roles are called Verified and Unverified unless you name them. Depending on the profile it also adjusts @everyone, which is what makes the gate real, so current members will notice the change until they verify.

- 3. Check the role order In the server's role list, put the Kirzen role above Unverified. Kirzen cannot give a role that sits above its own.
-
4. Choose how members verify
A button, a select menu, or questions that a moderator reviews.

5. If you chose questions, set them up
Write up to five questions, separated by a vertical bar, and choose the channel where the answers go. With auto approve on, people get in as soon as they answer and the questions are only a record.

6. Optional: change how the panel looks
Title, text, button label and colour, given as a hex value.

7. Post the panel
Send it to a channel that newcomers can see. If you change the looks later, run it again to update the message.

8. Optional: refuse very new accounts
Set a minimum account age in hours, up to 8760. It is off at 0.

9. Turn verification on
If something is missing, such as the roles, the panel or a review channel, the command says what.
/verification toggle enabled: true
-
10. Check it and test it
Look at what is configured, then join with a second account to see the whole path.

Common mistakes
- Turning it on without a panel. Newcomers would get Unverified and have nothing to click. Post the panel first.
- Using Strict on a server that already runs. Members lose sight of channels until they verify. Tell your community first, or start with Standard.
- The Unverified role above Kirzen. Kirzen cannot give it, so new members do not get it.
- Questions without a review channel. The command warns you: with no review channel and no auto approve, nothing reaches a moderator.
- Changing the looks and forgetting the panel. The message already posted does not change by itself. Run the panel command again.
