How to protect a Discord server from a raid
Turn on screening, choose what happens to risky new accounts, and keep one command ready to close the server. With Kirzen that is a handful of commands.
Before you start
You need the Manage Server permission. Kirzen joins with four permissions and never asks for Administrator, so quarantine, kick and ban only work after you give the Kirzen role the matching permission.
The steps
-
1. Choose where arrivals are reported
Pick a channel only moderators can see. Kirzen reports arrivals there.
/gatekeeper alerts
-
2. Turn the screening on
It starts off. Until you turn it on, new arrivals are not scored.
/gatekeeper toggle enabled: true
-
3. Choose what happens to a risky arrival
The default only posts an alert and lets the person in. The other choices are to hold them as unverified, park them in a quarantine role, kick or ban. Start with the alert and watch it for a few days before you pick something stronger.

4. If you choose quarantine, set the role
Create a role with no access to your channels and give it to Kirzen here. Kirzen needs Manage Roles to apply it.

5. Set the risk threshold
The score runs from 0 to 100 and the default is 50. A threshold of 0 catches everybody, and 100 almost nobody.

6. Say what counts as a raid
By default, 8 joins within 20 seconds start raid mode, and every join counts as high risk for 10 minutes. Change the number of joins, the seconds and the minutes to fit your server.

7. Check one account without acting
It scores a member and does nothing else. It does not count as a join.
/gatekeeper check
-
8. Optional: refuse very new accounts
Set a minimum account age in hours, up to 8760. It is off at 0.

9. Keep the emergency exit ready
If a raid gets through, one command closes the server and another opens it again. To end raid mode early, use calm.
/panic on /panic off /gatekeeper calm
Check that it works
Look at the current settings and who arrived recently, then at how well defended the server is.

Common mistakes
- Starting with kick or ban. Start with the alert, so you see who would be caught before anyone is removed.
- A threshold of 0. It catches every new member.
- Choosing quarantine without a role. Pick quarantine only after you have set the quarantine role.
- Expecting it to work while it is off. The screening starts off, and nothing is scored until you turn it on.
