Close a Discord server in one command
When something is happening and people need to stop posting now, one command silences every channel for @everyone. Another one opens the server again.
What it does
Close the server and watch what changes. Reading stays open, so a closed server is not a blind one.
- # welcomeOpen to allSilenced
- # generalOpen to allSilenced
- # staff-chatOpen to allSilenced
- # mod-logsOpen to allSilenced
- # ticketsOpen to allSilenced
- Lounge (voice)Open to allSilenced
A simulation. The reply is what the bot writes, in English.
What changes while it is closed
| What | What happens |
|---|---|
| Channels | Text, announcement, forum, voice and stage channels are silenced for @everyone. |
| What @everyone loses | Sending messages, creating threads, adding reactions, joining voice and speaking. |
| What stays | Reading. Staff roles keep whatever permissions they had. |
| Slowmode | 30 seconds on text channels by default, as a second layer. |
| Verification level | Raised to High if it was lower. |
| New joins | Paused by default, using Discord's own switch. |
| Direct messages between members | Paused if you ask for it. |
Putting it back
Before Kirzen changes a channel, it writes down what was there: the permission @everyone had, whether the channel had any rule of its own, and the slowmode.
Opening the server puts those back. It does not simply allow everything, because that would open channels that were meant to stay closed. The verification level goes back too.
When you close the server you can also set a time, from 1 to 1440 minutes, and it opens by itself.
What it does not do
- It does not kick, ban or delete anything. Closing is reversible and buys time to look. The rest is not reversible, and can be decided once somebody has looked.
- It does not touch roles. Staff keep what they had, so moderators can still talk to each other.
- It does not hide failures. Channels Kirzen could not change are listed in the reply, so you know which ones are still open.
Also in the command
- status
- Shows whether the server is closed, since when, and whether Discord itself flagged a raid here.
- blacklist
- Bans an account on sight if it ever joins. It does not ban anyone now: nothing happens unless they arrive.
- unblacklist
- Takes an account off the blacklist.
Questions
Who can use /panic?
People with the Manage Server permission.
Does /panic kick or ban anyone?
No. It silences channels and raises the join requirement. It never kicks, bans or deletes anything.
Can my moderators still talk while the server is closed?
Yes. Kirzen only changes what @everyone can do, so staff roles keep the permissions they had.
How do I open the server again?
Run /panic off. If you set minutes when you closed it, from 1 to 1440, it opens by itself.
Does it stop new people from joining?
By default, yes. It uses Discord's own switch to pause new joins, and you can also pause direct messages between members. Both lapse on their own.
